River City Youth Ops Spring Update | 2020

THE COVID-19 CRISIS: BALANCING REALISM & OPTIMISM

Now more than ever, Youth Ops is grateful for the support of our local community. The COVID-19 crisis has met us with change and uncertainty, but it has also brought to light the incredible strength, creativity and resiliency of humanity. We will continue to monitor the impacts of the pandemic and how those might affect our programs, keeping you, our valued partners and participants, in the loop every step of the way.

We maintain optimism that this will be our 13th season providing the youth of Spokane with opportunities for enrichment through community engagement, job training, education, and the growing and sharing of fresh produce!

PREPARING FOR THE SEASON

While practicing social distancing, we have begun preparing our farm lots for the upcoming season! Onions and potatoes are already in the ground, and kale is just around the corner. Special thanks to our VISTA, Simon Divers, a program participant of 2015-16 who has been hard at work readying plants in both the greenhouse and the garden.

We are also grateful to our partners at Catholic Charities, who have graciously created space for us to start our warm weather crops in their Food For All program's greenhouse, as well as Barr-Tech, who is donating a truck load of yard waste compost. It's a community effort that we are humbled to be part of!
